Surprised! India conducted intensive missile tests in October, and the armed forces of the sea, land and air should not be underestimated!

Today is November of 2020. There are few things going beyond the end. There is not much military news worth talking about during this period. With the exception of India, it can be said that the more it ends, the more I want to toss something out.

▲The Indian aircraft carrier that moved symbolically a few days ago

This is not today. I glanced at India’s military activities last month, and suddenly discovered that the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force organized several tactical missile test campaigns in October. At least five new tactical missiles were tested before and after. Most other archery activities have also been successful. The other major military powers have been quiet during this period, but India has made a lot of "surprises" before and after, which is quite amazing: India is also a little surprised at critical moments.

India October missile activities inventory

Let's take an inventory of the missile test launches carried out by India in October, and list them in chronological order:

▲On September 7, "Agni-1" was launched with the DRDO hypersonic test vehicle

PJ-10A "BrahMos" improved model

First of all, in early October, the Indian Navy’s P15A destroyer No. 3 "Chennai" conducted a test firing test of an improved PJ-10A "BrahMos" anti-ship missile in the Arabian Sea.

The so-called old "BrahMos", this time the BrahMos anti-ship missile tested by the "Chennai" has not changed much in size. It still maintains a projectile length of 8.9 meters and a projectile diameter of 0.67 meters. , The transmission quality is about 3000 thousand such a number, but the performance in two aspects has been greatly improved:

The first is the test range of the missile. It is said that the high-altitude trajectory of the old BrahMos listed by the “BrahMos” tested this time is only more than 300, and the low-altitude trajectory only has a range of more than 100 incidents, and the high-altitude trajectory reaches about 450. The air force’s actual combat range and low-altitude ballistic range have also been improved;

The second is the level of localization. The new BrahMos missile tested initially used India's self-produced solid fuel propellant, as well as India's self-produced sub-combustion ramjet and active radar guidance system.

▲Test-fired "BrahMos" in 2015

Considering that the Russian version of "BrahMos", the famous 3M55/P-800 "Gem" anti-ship missile, after implementing multiple rounds of improvements, the high-altitude ballistic range has almost reached the level of four to five hundred millimeters. India This time using a manually developed ramjet and solid rocket booster to increase the range of the BrahMos to more than 400.

Although there are some differences in the "jewels" of the Russian military's own versions, our YJ-12 anti-ship missiles are estimated to be insufficient, but India can obtain combat anti-ship missiles with a range of more than 400 millimeters. This research and development capability is still incredible. The extended-range "BrahMos" anti-ship missile has improved the Indian Navy's surface warfare capabilities, which of course deserves our continued attention.

Smart "Supersonic Missile Release Torpedo"

Then, on October 5, the well-known Indian Defense Research Organization (DRDO) conducted an anti-submarine missile test near Wheeler Island in the northern Bay of Bengal. The anti-submarine missile tested was called a "supersonic missile torpedo". The project, referred to as "Smart", is simply called the "Smart" anti-submarine missile.

The missile uses the rocket-assisted flight and anti-submarine torpedo entry search configuration commonly used by mainstream anti-submarine missiles. The rocket model used is unknown. Although the shape looks a bit similar to the special anti-submarine 91РЭ1 of the 3M54 "Club" anti-ship missile, only found The rectangular wing common on the "Club" missile does not see the air intake structure necessary for jet engines, and it is not ruled out that it is a solid fuel ballistic missile.

On the right side of the projectile is the TAL light anti-submarine torpedo developed by DRDO itself. Considering the typical anti-submarine torpedo configuration design, this is probably a 324 mm diameter light anti-submarine torpedo, because the TAL torpedo is still under development. Therefore, the current performance is not clear, and it is impossible to make sufficient research criteria for the performance of the entire anti-submarine missile.

Although the warhead performance of the "smart" missile is not yet clear, it is not contrary to DRDO's miracle in the development of this type of missile: According to reports, the rocket boost phase of this type of anti-submarine missile can reach 600 seconds. The flying speed can reach 3 times the speed of sound. Considering that the rocket boost section of the projectile is likely to be a solid fuel "ballistic missile" with a length of about 10 meters or even longer, the boost section has a practical range of 600 microns. The problem is not big.

However, this also means that this "Smart" missile wants to be deployed on ships should be useless, its deployment mode may be very special: the world's only "shore-to-submarine" missiles, in wartime may require ships at sea. Or the anti-submarine patrol aircraft first finds the target, and then exchanges shooting dollars with the onshore anti-submarine missile launching company. The shore-submarine missile launching company fires the "Smart" anti-submarine missile out. After the boost phase is completed, the torpedo enters the water and strikes the target.

Although the "creative" of such a missile is quite sufficient, and the 600-second rocket boost range is indeed the "first" of anti-submarine missiles in various countries, the brain circuit of the Indians is still quite suspicious: an anti-submarine missile is worth it. An anti-submarine patrol aircraft or destroyer needs to instruct the target. Then the anti-submarine patrol aircraft or surface ship will throw the anti-submarine torpedo directly because Mao does not find the target by himself? We don't know what medicine is sold in Indian gourd, we can only wait and see.

Rudram-1 anti-radiation missile

Immediately after October 9, the Indian Defense Research Organization continued to come out to brush up on the sense of existence. On the same day, DRDO and the Indian Air Force used a Su-30MKI fighter jet at the Balasol Shooting Range in Odisha on the coast of the Bay of Bengal to develop DRDO. The Rudram-1 anti-radiation missile was tested and successfully hit a test target also on Wheeler Island.

According to the information revealed, this "Rudram-1" anti-radiation missile has been tested by the Indian Air Force for many years and has not been formally installed in a large number of "Astra" active radar-guided medium-range air-to-air missiles. The missile is about 5.5 meters long and the launch quality is estimated to be more than 300 months. It is said that the range can reach about 110 inches.

In addition, the missile, like the AGM-88E anti-radiation missile installed by the US military, uses a multi-module seeker, including digital passive broadband radar, anti-radiation receiver and data link.

From the current performance analysis of the "Rudram-1" missile disclosed by India, at least several performances of the missile are quite eye-catching:

First, the suitability is very good. As we said before, whether it is the X-58 or X-31П as the main anti-radiation missile of the Russian army, or the only anti-radiation missile YJ-91 currently installed by the Chinese Air Force. , The launch quality is above 600 mm, which has a great impact on the mounting of the carrier. According to the basis, whether it is the AGM-88 of the US military or the "Rudram-1" of India, the launch mass is only more than 300 thousand, which is almost twice as light as the benchmark anti-radiation missiles of China and Russia;

Second, the overall performance is not too weak. The actual combat range of the Indian replacing the "Rudram-1" is more than 100 inches. Although the score of YJ-91 or X-31 extended range X-31ПД is still very different, but Don’t forget that it’s a "small missile" weighing more than 300 tons. At the same time, "Rudram-1" said it also uses a dual-pulse solid rocket motor. If you can play a "technology transfer" with the "Astra" missile. "It can also greatly improve the technical and tactical performance of the "Astra" missile.

Therefore, I think we still need to know about this "Rudram-1" missile tactically.

India's first domestically made "Dreadnought" cruise missile

Three days after testing the "Rudram-1" missile, the DRDO organization came out again. This test is the first domestically-made cruise missile of India that we mentioned before that the so-called first batch of bombs has been deployed to the Leh area. Very scared", the test was also carried out on Wheeler Island. Unfortunately, this test shot ended in failure.

According to the Indian side, it was the turbofan engine introduced from Russia that there was a problem. Although it is said that, the "Fearless" as a type has been developed from DRDO in 2004. It has been up and down for several years. The system equipment is the "India-made cruise missile" imported from Russia. The range of the "Hoveyzeh" cruise missile, which is not even as good as the Iranian Kh-55, is not as good as the previous generation subsonic cruise missile DF-10A of the Chinese Army. It's farther, and the test firing event this time has been shot back, so we don't want to say anything.

"Nag" anti-tank missile

Finally, on the morning of October 22, the Indian National Defense Research Organization organized a test-fire event of the Indian-made Nag anti-tank missile at the Bochran Shooting Range in Rajasthan, western India.

This type of anti-tank missile can also be regarded as a product of "30 years of sharpening a sword." After a total of 37 years of research and development, various technical indicators can be regarded as being changed again and again. But in any case, with the technical support of the French company Thales, the batch-produced "Nag" missiles are relatively advanced, and are similar to the US military’s FGM-148A "Javelin" missiles or our army’s HJ-12 missiles. Equivalent infrared imaging guidance mode means that it also has a CCD TV guidance channel.

The range of the missile is not too far, a little longer than the FGM-148A "Javelin", but considering that this is a heavy anti-tank missile on board, this is considered normal. In short, although the "Nag" anti-tank missile is also different It is a kind of machine, but at least after so many years of tossing, people have finally finished the research and development and are about to enter the stage of mass production.

How to evaluate India's missile test?

Looking at the missile test activities organized by the Indian armed forces in October, although the weapons that were launched were not extraordinary advanced weapons, it was not like the Korean People’s Army in the previous year. Last year, if they did not agree with each other, they would give you a "strategic strategy" from time to time. "Killing weapon", but the Indian army has been modernizing its armaments step by step. Some tactical missiles do have unique performance. We are all concerned.

The article at the time also satirized India

Therefore, for me, of course, we cannot underestimate India's ambitions in arms building. Especially with the gradual changes in the relationship between India and the strong enemy, the strong enemy is increasingly relying on India to check and balance China in the southwest, India’s domestic weapons research and development plan may receive technical support from the strong enemy, and India itself has some foundation. Next, coupled with the off-the-shelf technology of powerful enemies, I think the Indian army has the capability to develop more and more advanced tactical and even strategic missiles.

Therefore, with regard to the development of the Indian army’s equipment R&D and equipment modernization, we must not change the attitude of watching theaters and laugh, we still need to continue to pay attention.
