More than 20 years ago, a game called "CS" landed on major Internet cafes in China, causing a sensation in an instant. Countless teenagers tapped the mouse and keyboard in the dim and sultry Internet cafes to practice "sniping and jumping".

As a generation of classic games, the images of police and bandits in CS are deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. The prototypes of several characters in the counter-strike camp are all from the world-famous counter-terrorism forces. Among them, the role of wearing a gas mask is the most common. He comes from the pioneer of the world's special forces, referred to as SAS, the 22nd Royal Special Air Service Regiment.

SAS is the abbreviation of "Specila Air Service". Although it is called Special Air Service Corps, it is currently an army organization.

It was born during World War II and was created by Captain Stirling. It was the world's first regular special operations force. It was originally named L Detachment, and was changed to Special Air Service Regiment in 1942. During World War II, its name and organization changed many times. Because of the strong combat power and fascination, the Germans will immediately execute them after capturing the SAS members.

Since the 1960s, special operations deep into the enemy's rear under the Cold War atmosphere have been difficult to take place, and SAS has nothing to do. Coupled with the surging Irish independence movement, SAS officers began to train CQB (Indoor Close Combat) and VIP BG (Key Guard).

In 1971, Captain Marseille of SAS proposed to set up a full-time counter-terrorism squad, but it was not taken seriously. As a result, in the Munich crisis in 1972, the lack of a professional counter-terrorism force caused serious deaths and injuries, and made Germany lose its face.

On the second day of the tragedy, the British government authorized Captain Marseilles to form a counter-terrorism branch, namely SASCRW (Counter Revolutionary Warfare wing).

SAS CRW is divided into two teams, red and blue, on duty in rotation, one rotation a week, the squad on duty is ready to attack 24 hours a day, and the rest and standby squad will also participate in the action when necessary.

CRW’s first operation was to rescue the hostages kidnapped by the Irish Republican Army. In 1977, he supported the German GSG9 (Ninth Border Guard Group) in handling the Somali hijacking incident.

Although SAS is the world's earliest special forces, because of the need for secrecy, SAS rarely shows up and remains mysterious to the outside world. It was not until a hostage rescue operation in 1980 that SAS made its appearance in front of the world.

On April 30, 1980, six armed men stormed the Iranian Embassy in the United Kingdom and hijacked 26 hostages, including four British nationals.

The robber came from a member of the Democratic Revolutionary Front for the Liberation of Arab Stan (DRFLA), and the leader was 27-year-old Sharin.

These people are Arabs in Iran who have been seeking the independence of Kuzstan, an area inhabited by Arabs. They have 3 Browning pistols, 1 revolver, 2 scorpion submachine guns, and several Soviet grenades. Sarin’s request is simple. It requires the Iranian government to release 91 of his associates and ensure that the six of Sarin leave safely.

Naturally, the British government could not agree to terrorists' demands, but for a while, the London police could not deal with it and could only start negotiations. Fortunately, the UK does not lack the ability to fool people by talking.

While the police negotiated, the other side cut the phone line of the embassy and asked a policeman to send in a military phone for contact. This kind of phone cannot be hung up, so that the police can monitor the situation inside. By the way, a wiretap was installed to find out the distribution of terrorists and hostages.

Convened by the Secretary of the Interior, relevant departments of the British government held an emergency meeting. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was not present, but the instructions were clear that these terrorists must all die, and the operation was codenamed "Operation Hunter."

On May 1, Sarin did not follow the previous threats to kill the hostages, but the British government did not dare to bet and ordered SAS CRW to attack. The red and blue squads were dispatched at the same time to establish a headquarters near the embassy. The order they received was to act once the terrorist kills.

By May 4, the terrorists had released five hostages. However, the long-term confrontation caused these rookie terrorists to gradually lose control, and quarrels continued. The hostages also collapsed. On May 5, a staff member of the Iranian Embassy asked for martyrdom and was shot by terrorists.

After hearing the gunshots, the British government handed over command to the military, and the two CRW teams immediately began operations. According to the plan, the first group will enter the stairwell glass dome of the embassy building, the second group will descend from the roof cable to the balcony on the third floor and break the window to enter, and the third group will climb from the building next door to the second floor balcony.

▲Prepare for cable descent

Unexpectedly, there was an accident at the beginning of the operation, because they did not bring a rope when they came, so the team members bought ordinary downhill ropes from a nearby store. As a result, the quality of civilian products was indeed inferior to military products. The leader of the 2 group got stuck when he descended, and the other team members accidentally broke a piece of glass while helping him.

▲Pay attention to a team member being hung in the air

The abnormal sound alarmed Sarin, but fortunately, the negotiator was quite flicker, and he actually convinced Sarin that it was just a rat in the house. Originally, the second group was to use explosives to open the windows. In order not to blow the windows and the captain together, they used a hammer to break the windows. After the broken windows, a few flash bombs were thrown into the house. As a result, another accident occurred.

SAS CRW is the first anti-terrorist force in the world to use flash bombs. When teaching Germans to use them, the other side kindly reminded them that the fragments of flash bombs are not small indoors. Burning luminous magnesium powder will ignite combustibles. It's just that the British didn't take it seriously.

▲After the rescue, the fire brigade extinguished the fire

As a result, as soon as the flash bomb was thrown in, it ignited the combustibles in the house. The flames rushed out and faced the 2 group captains who were hanging in the air. The two groups of players rushed in despite the captain’s hanging, and the poor captain had to shake. Rope so as not to be burned. Fortunately, the members of Group 1 came to cut the rope and rescued him.

The other groups entered the building at almost the same time. A member of the two groups met a terrorist while searching the room. He just wanted to shoot but encountered a gun jam. This is a well-known MP5! Damn German!

▲ Team members preparing for the raid

The team member had no time to greet the Germans, and took out a pistol to kill the still dazed terrorist. The three terrorists who heard the fighting lost their minds and shot and killed a hostage, but when they realized that the CRW members were getting closer, they chose to throw away their weapons and mix them in the hostage pile.

After the CRW team arrived, they quickly identified two terrorists from the eyes of many hostages, and pulled them out and shot them.

Searching for the 3 groups on the 2nd floor, found and killed Sarin. After confirming the safety of the hostages, the team members escorted the hostages away from the embassy. During the period, they found a terrorist hidden in the hostages and was also pulled out and shot dead, but the last terrorist was still not found.

▲The one on the bottom right is the last militant rescued by the camera

It was not until the hostages gathered on the lawn outside that they found the last terrorist. At this time, an Iranian diplomat reminded the counter-terrorism team that if you kill in front of reporters, it will definitely cause an uproar in public opinion. Looking at the reporters' guns and guns outside, the team members just arrested him and handed him over to the police without killing him.

▲The anti-terrorist team members who are descending

The entire operation took only 14 minutes. Five of the six terrorists were killed and one was arrested. There were almost no casualties among the team members involved in the operation. It can be said to be a perfect operation.

This action was the first public appearance of SAS CRW in front of the world. Reporters from all walks of life broadcast the action almost all the time, and naturally they also photographed a member of the team suspended in the air by a rope.

▲Hung in the air

It's just that the flaws are not concealed. The media still praises SAS CRW. Operation Hunter is also recognized as the most successful hostage rescue operation.

But SAS CRW still kept a low profile as much as possible. Everyone wore gas masks to ensure that they would not show their faces, and the SAS logo on their bodies was also torn off to avoid being targeted by terrorist organizations.

▲MP5 submachine gun, a weapon that anti-terrorist forces all over the world like

The rescue of the hostages this time reflects the high quality of SAS CRW. In the narrow corridors and rooms, the CQB they exercise played an important role.

The daily training submachine gun/rifle quickly switched pistol subjects and was also applied. The MP5 stuck player pulled out his pistol and killed the terrorist.

▲Our army has been practicing fast reflex attack in the past two years

But in all fairness, the opponents in this operation are too bad. Although Sharin and others are terrorists, their professionalism is too poor and they have no plans beforehand.

Even without the courage to die together, the terrorists in the hostages dared not detonate the grenades. His level of intelligence was too low, and he was fooled by British negotiators for a while.

Wearing a gas mask, wearing a black combat vest, and holding an MP5 submachine gun SAS CRW has since become a classic image.

In addition to CS, "Rainbow 6" also has the image of SAS CRW members, a classic character in the modern warfare series of "Call of Duty", and Captain Price is a SAS CRW member. In 2002, Britain aired the British drama "Special Police" featuring SAS CRW.

▲ "Rainbow Six"

It can be said that SAS CRW has almost become a representative of special forces and counter-strike elites. Anti-terrorism forces from all over the world are learning their training and combat methods. The famous Hong Kong Flying Tigers is almost the Hong Kong version of SAS.

There are signs of suspected SAS troops on the wall

From this SAS CRW operation, it can be seen that even the best special forces will make mistakes. The special forces on the screen are too far away from reality, and life and death are often in the line. .
