 The man almost died from handling pork because of a fatal oversight! It’s so common that everyone who cooks will commit

It's normal to clean and dispose of meat, seafood and other ingredients bought from outside with bare hands.
However, some people fell bad luck and almost lost their lives! How is this going?

Man with a high fever of 40 ℃ almost died
It's pork
According to Information Times, 50-year-old Uncle Zhang (surnamed Hua) in Zhaoqing, Guangdong has been selling pork for six or seven years and has always been healthy.
In late October, he suddenly felt inexplicably sore in his neck and back. At first he thought it was just a cold, so he didn't take it seriously. But a few days later, he had a severe headache, and his family rushed him to the hospital, but the CT examination found no abnormalities.
Unexpectedly, his condition deteriorated sharply that night, with a fever of 40.2°C, and his whole body was irritable, his hands and feet moved in disorder, just like "crazy".
After being transferred to the hospital in Guangzhou, the neurologist found that Uncle Zhang had a soy-sized wound on his left thumb. The doctor considered that the patient had a history of exposure to raw pork and had a positive meningeal irritation. The preliminary judgment was meningitis caused by Streptococcus suis infection.

Sure enough, Streptococcus suis was finally found in the patient's cerebrospinal fluid!
Coincidentally, a 55-year-old Ms. Shu from Guangxi did not wear gloves when she chopped pork bones. She was scratched on her left thumb by a broken bone and bleeding on the spot.
But she didn't bandage, just rinsed briefly, and the wound healed after two days. However, it was this humble little wound that endangered her life.
A few days later, she suddenly felt unwell, the high fever persisted, and "the head is going to explode."
The family hurriedly accompanied her to the hospital for treatment. After examination, she had streptococcus suis meningitis. The protein in the cerebrospinal fluid was 1000 times the normal limit. Fortunately, she came in time, otherwise her life would be worrying.

Beware of the hidden "killers" in pork
Nearly half of the cases are in China
How can a piece of pork and a piece of pork bone have such a "lethal power"?
In fact, Streptococcus suis is a zoonotic disease. If people have wounds or barbs on their hands and then come into contact with sick pigs with Streptococcus suis, they will be easily infected, but they will not spread from person to person.
The prevalence of Streptococcus suis is relatively high in pigs, but it is rare in humans. Since 1968, only 450 cases have been reported globally. However, it is worth noting that despite the small number of cases, China alone accounts for nearly half-more than 200 cases have been treated.
In addition, humans are generally susceptible to Streptococcus suis, and it is not easy to be detected and identified at the initial stage of infection. It is often more serious when they arrive in the hospital. Therefore, we must pay attention to it.

In daily life, ordinary people should do the following to prevent Streptococcus suis infection:
①Go to regular vegetable markets and supermarkets to buy pork that has been inspected and quarantined. Do not buy pork from unknown sources;

②When handling pork, it is best to wear cooking gloves, especially when there are cuts or barbs on your hands;

③Pork must be cooked! Studies have pointed out that Streptococcus suis can survive for 10 minutes in water at 60°C, but will die immediately if it is boiled;

④If you have been in contact with sick or dead pigs or their products within a week, especially breeding and slaughter personnel, if you have fever, headache, vomiting and other symptoms, you must seek medical attention in time and inform the medical staff of the history of pork exposure.

In addition to pork, there is also a common ingredient that is life-threatening if we accidentally handle it: shrimp, crab and other seafood.

I was stabbed by seafood and died of organ failure
Aunt Wang from Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province accidentally punctured her right middle finger by the tail of the shrimp when she was washing the shrimp. She just washed it briefly.
The next day, the stabbed finger began to swell and sore, but still didn't care. Two days later, she started to have a fever, her lower limbs were swollen with large bloody bullae.

Although her family subsequently sent her to the emergency department, she had already developed symptoms such as septic shock and multiple organ failure. She was in a critical condition and died after being rescued.
An old man in Guangzhou accidentally injured his right hand by the claws of a crab while handling crabs. He saw that the wound was not big, so he didn't take it seriously and didn't do anything to deal with it.
Little did he know that the situation gradually deteriorated, and the back of his hands began to become red, swollen, and black, as well as diarrhea and abdominal pain. Later, he developed multiple organ failures such as heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver. Although he was rescued by amputation, he died.

How could it be so powerful just being stabbed by seafood?
The source of all tragedies comes from a deadly bacteria-marine Vibrio vulnificus.
Marine Vibrio vulnificus, known as the "silent killer" in the ocean, is a common bacteria in and out of seafood such as shrimps, marine fish, crabs, and oysters.
If a person eats this kind of seafood with this kind of bacteria raw, or touches it with a wound on his body, he may be infected.
Marine Vibrio vulnificus is very toxic and can cause wound infections and primary sepsis. Patients will initially experience fever, erythema, and dark skin.
If it is not treated in time, the skin tissue will suffer from a large area of bad things, symptoms of systemic poisoning, multiple organ failure, and eventually death.

How to prevent being targeted by "deadly bacteria"?
1. Wear gloves to prevent injury
Many shrimp and crabs have sharp shells, and thicker gloves are better. If you have a wound on your body, it is best not to touch the seafood, and try not to play in the sea.
2. Don't eat seafood raw, it must be cooked
Some seafood is delicious when eaten raw, but you don't know how many pathogenic bacteria are hidden in it. Therefore, seafood must be thoroughly cooked.

3. In case of injury by seafood
If the wound is not deep, you should first squeeze the blood out, rinse with running water, and then disinfect and debride the wound with medical alcohol or iodophor.
If the wound is deep, it is recommended to go to the hospital after simple treatment. Because the wound is too deep, it is easy to create an anaerobic environment, allowing anaerobic bacteria such as tetanus bacillus to invade the nervous system and even cause death.
Marine Vibrio vulnificus can infect anyone, and the following types of people are particularly favored by marine Vibrio vulnificus, so be careful:
Alcoholic cirrhosis

Chronic hepatitis

Alcoholism but no history of liver disease

Hereditary hemochromatosis (iron)

There are chronic diseases such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic renal failure.
